- every resident has their own room
- basic furnishings are provided, but you can make yourself at home by bringing your own furniture and belongings
- each room has its own heat and includes a wardrobe, most have their own ensuites
- you can install a private phone (rentals are charged through Telecom)
- there is an emergency call bell system in bedrooms and bathrooms
- newspapers can be delivered on request
- there are cosy lounges and sheltered areas where you can sit outside and enjoy the sunshine
- you can arrange appointments with the hairdresser, podiatrist, physiotherapist, dentist, optician or doctor
- shopping at the on-site mini-market can be organised
- all meals are prepared and cooked on site. A qualified dietitian oversees the menu and caters for special diets
- we can usually cater for guests visiting for lunch or dinner
- Sarah Selwyn provides Hospital Level Care and is staffed with registered nurses 24/7, assisted by caregivers and other professional staff. All staff have on-going training on safety issues and the particular needs of current residents
- A Nurse Practioners routinely visits the care home and there is 24/7 medical coverage
- the village chaplain visits regularly and is available for counselling and support. Worship services are held regularly
- visiting family members and friends are welcome any time, any day
- there is a ‘Quiet Room’ situated at the back of the dining room where visitors have access to tea and coffee making facilities
- there are smoke detectors and sprinklers throughout the care home
- you can enjoy the full range of Selwyn Village facilities, although assistance from family and friends may be needed to access them
Activities
You can take advantage of a wide range of activities for both enjoyment and to maintain mobility. Sarah Selwyn has its own activities’ coordinator who organises: carpet bowls, reading to residents, providing large print books, breakfast in bed, listening to classical music, concerts and other entertainment, indoor games, outings, parties, pianists, sing-alongs and much more. A village minibus takes residents for drives, and there is a ‘happy hour’ each week.
